****SONGWRITING NOTES****
*This may be the only song I ever wrote out of anger. I had watched the news one night at my in-law's house and became so mad at all the "junk"---I can't remember exactly what, in particular---that I went into the next room and started writing this song.

*I've gotten a kick over the years from so many people who had no idea who Chet and David were and ventured guesses---everything from my kids to my dogs. In case you aren't as ancient as I, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley were once a famous evening newscasting team who closed each broadcast by saying "good-night" to each other. Using the line to start the song was supposed to bring an instant recognition to the listener's ears that this song had something to do with the news. It didn't always make as good a connection as I had hoped.

*As far as I know, this song has never been recorded by anyone else, although I've probably received more compliments for it from fellow songwriters that any other. The most wonderful and humbling came when someone from my publishing company at the time sent along a copy of an article in which Rich Mullins was asked if he were stranded on a deserted island with only three recordings, which would they be and "Thankful" was one of his choices.
