****SONGWRITING NOTES**** |
*We were attending a little
country church just down the road from us shortly after moving to
Nashville. One Sunday the man who was supposed to preach had gotten hurt
and another filled in for him. He was talking about missions and mentioned
a phrase---"untold thousands remain untold"---that had possibly been said
a million times but I myself had never heard it. It stuck with me and this
song came directly from that phrase.
It ended up being recorded by Dallas Holm and was fairly popular. Which has made me wonder many times---what if that original speaker hadn't gotten hurt? His pain led to a wonderful blessing. *I wanted the title to be "Untold Millions" because there were so many other songs called "Jesus Saves". My publisher won out, as usual, and I really didn't have a problem with it. It is funny to me, though, that to this day, people still mention the song to me as "Untold Millions"---not because I ever called it that but I guess because that's what stuck with them. *I really liked Dallas Holm's version, but always felt it was a tad too slow. There. I said it. |
